A theme of custom maps is that they are created to the author's specifications. Minute details at the ground level or broad campaign views of geographic regions are possible.
One of the key features in many studies is the ability of the author to convey movements of armies and men to the reader. Custom maps allow this to happen.
Maps can depict battles and campaigns for any publishing platform.
The samples above demonstrate a few of the maps created for books published in academic presses.

Geographic/Political Maps
Maps depicting geographic locations specific to the author's needs is another avenue when exploring custom map creations. The maps above, depicting Indian tribes in the Gulf Coast, the XIT Ranch in Texas, and Northern Mexico at the turn of the twentieth century are just some examples of the sources available to authors and scholars.
